Online and Open Studies Courses - 2013/14

The Academic Year has come to a close, but the faculty and staff at CLS have already been preparing for next year for several months. Each year CLS offers a handful of opportunities for non-MDiv students to participate in both credit and non-credit classes alongside those who are preparing for ordination.

Open Studies students enroll in the same courses as Master of Divinity students, such as Middle Ages and Reformation history or Christianity and World Religions. These students have already completed a bachelors degree but are either not ready to fully enter the MDiv program or have no desire to become a Pastor. They participate in all of the same learning activities and receive the same academic credit. Some of these courses are residential courses - offered on campus at CLS - while others are blended courses, available in-person or online through live video conferences.

Quest Students enroll in a short series of illustrated talks offered on 4 consecutive Tuesdays each semester. These are non-credit, extension courses that are open to anyone who desires to participate. This year the Quest courses will be lead by two of CLS's alumni who are currently serving as pastors in LCC congregations.

Click here for a PDF brochure listing details of both the Open Studies and Quest offerings for 2013/14.

If you know of anyone who might benefit and/or be interested in either of these offerings, please pass this information along!

29th Sacred Convocation

Join us on Friday, May 24, 2013 at 7:00 pm for our 29th Sacred Convocation in the Robert Tegler Student Centre, Concordia University College of Alberta, Edmonton, AB.  Three MDiv. graduates, Vincent Moore, Todd Guggenmos and Mark Schultz, will  have successfully completed their studies and stand ready to offer themselves for placement in the church as called “servants for Jesus’ sake.” Vicarage assignments for Aaron Astley and Scott Gamble will be announced as the church and seminary continue to work together in forming them as future pastors.   One graduate, James Kaye, of Lutheran Church–Canada’s “Pastors With Alternate Training (PAT)” program will receive his call from the church. Honorary awards will be presented to Ms. Lynn Gergens (Doctor of Letters), to Mr. Art Timm (Faith in Life), and to Mrs. Doreen Christensen (Friend of the Seminary). Please join us as we celebrate all of the mercies God has showered upon us throughout this academic year.
The service will also be broadcast live on our website. Watch this page for more details.
